Hello World! Presenting Beyond Identity Universal Passkey SDKs and APIs for Developers

One of Beyond Identity’s founding principles is to revolutionize how the world authenticates. As with any goal of a global scale, we can’t get there alone and that’s why we need your help.

Today, we’re excited to expand our SDKs and APIs to help developers build universal passkeys across native mobile and web applications quickly, easily, and for free. With these, developers can embed invisible, multi-factor authentication (MFA) in a way that doesn’t use passwords at all and greatly reduces or eliminates account takeover fraud and works across all platforms.

Along with a new developer site, complete documentation, and Slack community, we hope this functionality empowers  developers to build more secure services with the Beyond Identity platform.

We’d love to hear your thoughts, join us in Slack.

What’s new

Start building with self-serve sign-up: Create an account to make web and native applications passwordless in minutes. The sign-up process also allows you to experience registration flow with Beyond Identity universal passkeys firsthand.

Updated SDK and API documentation: Our expanded documentation includes developer guides, API reference, integration guides, platform overview, and more, you can get started quickly and if it works for your app, dig deeper into how the platform works. The driving principles behind documentation are to treat docs as code and so you can easily embed our SDKs and API within your applications.

What makes Beyond Identity different?

While passwordless authentication has been picking up steam, not all passwordless is created equal. The fundamental architecture of Beyond Identity which binds identities to devices using asymmetric cryptography allows us to deliver four unique benefits.

Zero-friction user experience: The user never needs to type a password, copy a one-time passcode (OTP), accept a push notification, click a magic link, or pick up a second device at all for authentication on any device.

Unphishable MFA: With Beyond Identity, every authentication is multi-factor by default with “something you are” from the device biometric and private key which validates “something you own”. Phishing attacks are on the rise and the US government in January 2022 has decreed that SMS OTPs and push notifications are not phishing resistant. All factors leveraged by Beyond Identity are phishing resistant without adding friction for the user.

Dynamic risk-based access policies: Security should be more nuanced than allow or deny and instead allow for step-up biometric verification based on context. For example, you may want to deny or prompt for step-up biometric verification for users with jailbroken or rooted devices. Or you can require a step-up authentication by default for higher risk user actions such as viewing or editing payment information, personally identifiable information, or adding/removing trust devices.

Consistent cross-platform support: Users might access your application on a desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone across platform ecosystems like Apple and Android. Regardless of where your users interact with your applications, Beyond Identity ensures that the authentication experience is universally consistent with SDKs in popular development languages for both native and web applications.
