In October 2023, medical device manufacturer LivaNova USA experienced a significant data breach, identified on November 19, and linked to the LockBit ransomware gang. LivaNova discovered that its systems had been accessed by hackers around October 26, leading to the theft of 2.2 terabytes of data, which included sensitive information such as names, addresses, dates of birth, phone numbers, email addresses, Social Security numbers, medical information, and health insurance information. The breach impacted 129,219 individuals, and LivaNova has offered them two years of free identity protection and credit monitoring services as a mitigation measure. The company initially disclosed the breach on April 25 and noted that it had resumed manufacturing in certain affected locations. Financially, LivaNova reported incurring $2.6 million in costs related to the incident during the fourth quarter of 2023.
